Our Story

Rock Development Group’s roots can be traced to a family business that began in Canberra with a single takeaway restaurant in 1967.

In time, this business grew into one of Australia’s largest independent supermarket chains and wholesale operations – Cannons Supermarkets and the Australian Independent Wholesalers. The success of these retail ventures allowed the group to develop and build a number of retail and industrial complexes, independently or in joint ventures, including shopping centres and service stations in developing hubs across the city.

Building on this success, Rock began to tackle more ambitious projects.  These include extensive refurbishments to the heritage listed Melbourne Building, the refurbishment and development of the Sutherland complex, and residential projects. By 2001 Rock had established strong foundations and an enviable reputation for excellence, but still we strive for more.

The recent development of a large industrial park with green certification for the use the 90 per cent recycled products was just the forerunner for our latest exciting project – the re-development of the busiest market site in the region.

The $130 million project in Belconnen will include a major distribution centre for one of Australia’s largest retail groups, and a certified six star green residential building.
